What is a DEC?

A Display Energy Certificate shows the energy efficiency (energy performance operational rating) and carbon emissions of a building.

It also displays the Operational Ratings for the previous 3 years.

They must be displayed clearly in public buildings exceeding 1000m² in floor area and need to be updated on an annual basis.

An Advisory Report will accompany each DEC and include additional figures to support the certificate. This report is valid for 7 years and should be kept with the person responsible for the building.

Both the DEC and the Advisory Report need to be produced by an accredited energy assessor.
